Famous poet Munawwar Rana, who wrote many works on his mother, died late night due to cardiac arrest. He was ill for several days. He was undergoing treatment at PGI, Lucknow. He was admitted to ICU on January 9 after his health deteriorated. Rana breathed his last at the age of 71. Munavvar had many kidney and heart related problems.

According to reports, Munawwar Rana's daughter Sumaiya has informed that her father died in the hospital late on Sunday night. His last rites are going to be performed on Monday. Munavvar is survived by his wife, four daughters and a son. Rana's son Tabrez has said that due to illness he was admitted in the hospital for 14-15 days. He was first admitted to Medanta in Lucknow and then to SGPGI. Where he breathed his last at around 11 pm on Sunday night.

Last year, Munawwar Rana was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Lucknow due to ill health. Even then his condition had deteriorated so much that he was put on ventilator. Rana's daughter and SP leader Sumaiya Rana had said that her father's health was bad for the last 2-3 days. He had stomach pain during dialysis due to which the doctor admitted him. There was some problem in his gall bladder, due to which he underwent surgery. When his health did not improve, he was on the ventilator support system.

Has a long association with controversies: Munawwar Rana also had a deep association with controversies. Before the assembly elections held in Uttar Pradesh in 2022, Munawwar Rana had said that if Yogi Adityanath becomes the Chief Minister again, he will leave Uttar Pradesh. I will go to Delhi-Kolkata. My father did not approve of going to Pakistan but now with great sadness I will have to leave this city, this state, my soil. Munawwar had said that PM Modi did bad by placing his hand on the Chief Minister's shoulder, due to which he spread discrimination in UP. This government just gave the slogan of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, nothing happened. If they have their way, they will free the Muslims from the state. Delhi, Kolkata, Gujarat are safer for them.

In the year 2021, Munawwar Rana had raised serious questions after the firing on his son Tabrez, saying there was a threat to his life. Whereas in the year 2020, Munawwar had justified the incident of murder of a school teacher by slitting her throat in France over the cartoon controversy. He had argued that if religion is like a mother, if someone makes a bad cartoon or abuses your mother or religion, then he is forced to do so in anger.

Munawwar had written a couplet on Twitter on the farmers' movement, on which there was a lot of controversy. In this couplet, Rana talked about demolishing the Parliament and building a farm and also talked about burning the warehouses of the Seths. However, due to controversy, he deleted this tweet.

Who was Rana?: Munawwar Rana was a famous poet and poet, who wrote in Urdu as well as Hindi and Awadhi languages. Munawwar also published his ghazals in many different styles. He has also been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2014 for Urdu literature and the Maati Ratan Samman by the Shaheed Research Institute in 2012. He returned the Academy Award after about a year. Also, due to increasing intolerance, he had vowed never to accept government awards.
