Kristen Zang, the ex-girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio, is denouncing internet comments that are "ageist." Since the actor split from his fiancée Camila Morrone, rumors that he only likes women younger than 25 have circulated online, and netizens have deemed the situation worthy of memes, making the split all about Leo's preferences. After seeing the commotion, Kristen Zang wrote an essay for People where she shared her opinions on the rumors.

Zang said in her post on Wednesday that she doesn't think Leo and Camila's breakup had anything to do with their ages, despite the fact that she does find the "funny memes" that have resulted from the turmoil amusing. In the 90s, Zang and DiCaprio called it quits after dating for four years. Zang wrote about current news stories and rumors, per Page Six, "Puh-lease (insert dramatic eye roll) I think we can and should do better. What kind of message is this sending to young people?"

Zang discussed her own romance with Leo and how it ended four months after she turned 25. She went on to write, "Ha, I know what you’re thinking," she then added, "It was a choice I made. I don’t how to explain it exactly, I just felt like I was ready for our relationship to be done.” She further revealed her reasons for breaking up with Leo as she felt she had "outgrown" the attachment and added, "I wanted to figure out who I was and what I wanted."

On the other hand, as for DiCaprio and Marrone's breakup, Zang wrote, "Who knows what happened. Maybe she really cared for him but was just ready for the next chapter, perhaps it’s temporary, or maybe it’s none of our business."
