Ahmedabad: While the death toll due to consumption of spurious liquor in Rojid village under Botad district in Gujarat has reached 28, the controversy over the incident has also begun. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come under attack from the Bhupender Patel government in the state over the incident that took place ahead of the assembly elections at the end of the year. While Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who arrived in Gujarat on Tuesday, raised questions about the matter, party spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed that 845 people have lost their lives due to the consumption of spurious liquor in the last 15 years.
Kejriwal, who arrived in Rajkot in Gujarat, said, "A very sad incident has come to my notice that more than 25 people have lost their lives due to consumption of spurious liquor in Bhavnagar and many others are admitted in hospitals. I wish them a speedy recovery.'' Kejriwal said that if Gujarat is a dry state, then how is liquor being sold openly in the state and who is benefiting from it? He said this is not the first time in Gujarat that people have lost their lives due to spurious liquor. He said why the government is not paying attention to it.
On the other hand, AAP MLA and party spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed that Gujarat is a dry state, yet in 15 years, more than 845 people have died due to spurious liquor. Saurabh questioned, "Under the protection of which politicians are such a large organized network operating? The government is losing Rs 15,000 crores due to prohibition, but liquor is being sold openly. So in whose pocket is this money going?''
