Yesterday, the world's fastest supersonic cruise missile, Brahmos test firing, failed. Brahmos is said to have landed immediately after takeoff. The updated version of BrahMos was being tested off the Odisha coast, which is capable of hitting the objective of up to 450 km. According to sources, the problem in testing has been caused due to a malfunction in the propulsion system of the missile. However, the exact reason will come out only after investigation. According to sources, the missile crashed soon after its launch this morning.

However, a joint team of scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation and Brahmos Aerospace Corporation is investigating the reasons for its failure. Brahmos has been a very reliable missile. There have been very few occasions when its testing has failed.

Earlier, Brahmos was less than 300 km range:-
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was earlier used to hit a target of less than 300 km. It was recently updated and has now been able to attack enemy targets 450 km away. Brahmos is counted among the few missiles in the world in terms of speed. Most of its speed is more than 4,300 kmph. The missile is very portable i.e. it is easy to launch.

The missile is built in association with Russia:-
India has earlier introduced several versions of Brahmos. Brahmos Aerospace has developed them with the help of Indian agency DRDO and NPO Mashinostroeyenia of Russia. The Brahmos missile is named after two rivers, the Brahmaputra in India and Moskva in Russia. Brahmos has been named Brah and Mos of both.
