Srikakulam: After heavy rains due to Cyclone Gulab, there was heavy inflow in rivers, streams and irrigation project, Onthotapalli and Madduvalasa reservoirs and Gotta barrage. The flood water level in the rivers and projects of the district started receding since Wednesday morning. Paddy crop was damaged in several villages of Sarbujjili, Burja, LN Peta, Ponduru, Santhakaviti, Amudalavalasa, Vangara, Jalumuru, Narasanapeta and other mandals due to floods.
Nellimeta village in Panduru mandal and Allena village in Burja mandal are still submerged in Nagavali flood waters, Koppara, Geetanapalli and Chakarapalli villages of Vangara mandal are submerged in the flood waters of Madduvalasa reservoir. Agriculture and Horticulture officers and employees on Wednesday started counting the crop losses in cyclone-hit mandals across the district.
Roads under the control of the R&B department have collapsed due to flood waters and fallen trees. Due to this, a loss of Rs 32.07 crore is estimated. In the power department, a loss of Rs 5.3 crore is estimated as 104 sub-stations were affected, 463 power supply feeders and a total of 513 power poles were damaged due to the cyclone. District Collector Shrikesh B Lathkar said, “We will finish the calculation of the entire loss to crops and other areas within two days and report it to the government.”
