State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) on February 4 hiked the rate of non-subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs 25 in metros. The new rates come into force right from today.

After the recent hike, the LPG gas price in Delhi is Rs. 719 for every 14.2 kg LPG cylinder. Price of LPG cylinder in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai has also been increased by Rs. 25 each to Rs. 745.5, Rs. 719 and Rs. 735, respectively. Notably, there was no change in LPG prices for January month.   However, LPG prices were raised in Delhi in the month of December through two hikes by Rs. 100 per cylinder.

The increase in non-subsidized LPG cylinder prices comes after a pause of a month. In December 2020, prices were hiked by Rs 100 in Delhi in two consecutive hikes.

Oil-marketing retailers revise LPG cylinder prices based on the international benchmark rate and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate.

Cooking gas cylinders are made available at the market rate in the country and the government transfers the subsidy amount directly into the account of eligible consumers. The subsidy is the difference between market and subsidized price of LPG cylinder. Consumers can avail a maximum of 12 cylinders of 14.2 kg each at subsidized rates.
