BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Assembly's five-day monsoon session will begin on July 25, according to an official. The opposition Congress in the state has called for a 20-day continuation of the monsoon session.

The Madhya Pradesh Assembly's monsoon session will start on July 25 and go through July 29, said Mr. AP Singh, the assembly's senior secretary. Five sittings will take place during the session. However, the leader of the opposition, Dr. Govind Singh, urged in a statement that the assembly session be held for more or less 20 days.

He said, constitutional experts urge that the state Assembly meet at least 60 to 75 times per year. The Congress representative alleged that the BJP-led state administration had "failed" in recent months on a number of fronts, including in addressing issues with crime against women, peace and order, power crisis, farmer suicides, high fuel costs, as well as difficulties with health and employment.

In addition, lawmakers must bring up issues affecting their constituents, he added.
