Maharashtra: Ahead of Devendra Fadnavis' Rally, Farmer Wearing BJP T-shirt hangs himself

Pune: In an incident that is likely to embarrass the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra, a farmer in Buldhana district of the state, wearing a party T-shirt, hanged himself in the early hours of Sunday. The farmer has been identified as Raju Talwade, 38 years old. He was found hanging from a tree branch at around 8.30 am in Khatkhed village in the district. 

He was wearing a BJP T-shirt with lotus inscribed on the party's election symbol and with the election slogan on it  'punha aaluya aaple sarkar' (let's bring our government to power again),"This T-shirt party was distributed to supporters before the October 21 assembly elections. The incident took place at a time when PM Modi was addressing an election rally in Vidarbha, BJP President Amit Shah was doing an election tour in Western Maharashtra, and opposition Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi Marathwada and election campaign in Mumbai Were driving. Incidentally, CM Devendra Fadnavis comes from Nagpur in Vidarbha region.

Shiv Sena farmer leader Kishore Tiwari has said that the incident is very serious and has urged all parties to take the farmers' problem seriously in the state. Tiwari told the media that, "Such a suicide points to a very serious crisis standing in front of farming. If the next government does not take concrete steps, then this problem will be out of control.
