Aurangabad: Maharashtra CM and Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said that not a single tree will be cut in the place where the memorial of Shiv Sena founder late Bal Thackeray is proposed in the city. Speaking to reporters here, CM Uddhav Thackeray has said that no trees will be cut but indigenous species of trees will be planted in the proposed memorial site Priyadarshini Garden.

Thackeray reached Priyadarshini Garden and after inspecting the memorial site said that more saplings should be planted at the site. The spot has been in dispute since the time Amrita Fadnavis, wife of former state CM Devendra Fadnavis, tweeted media reports in early December that around a thousand trees would be cut for the construction of the memorial.

When the dispute arose, Thackeray asked the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation to ensure that not a single tree was cut down for the construction of his late father's memorial. Thackeray discussed the memorial plan with agencies during a visit to Priyadarshini Gardens. He said, "We will not cut a single tree here but we will plant more trees here."
