Ashok Chavan to join BJP? Congress likely to suffer major setback in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Is former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan going to quit the Congress? These discussions are going on in Maharashtra amid former party president Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Joda Yatra. Due to this, Ashok Chavan's attitude towards the BJP and Eknath Shinde faction is soft. Along with this, the return gift he received from the Eknath Shinde government has also fuelled the claims. While projects of the Uddhav Thackeray government's era are being scrapped in Maharashtra, an important scheme has been given the green signal in Ashok Chavan's constituency.

In fact, the water grid scheme has been approved in Chavan's Bhokar assembly constituency. The Shinde government has given the green signal to a plan to provide water to 183 villages in Bhokar. This is a Rs 728 crore project and the tender for this has been floated 10 days ago. There is speculation in the political corridors of Maharashtra about why the Eknath Shinde government is so kind to them. That too at a time when many plans have been put on hold by him.

Ashok Chavan is said to be unhappy with the Congress high command and is considering quitting the party. BJP leaders have also made similar statements in the last few days, leading to speculation that Chavan may enter the saffron party. The Legislative Council elections held in June are also believed to be one of the reasons behind this.
