NEW DELHI: The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police finally detained a man from Jharkhand who had raped and blackmailed CISF personnel as well as attacked a police team trying to apprehend him in Bihar.

According to Rajesh Deo, the District Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Crime Branch, the accused Deepak Kumar, who had previously pretended to be a Major in the Indian Army, was being detained in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district.
"The accused had raped the victim and also cheated her of Rs 28 lakhs on the pretext of providing jobs to her brother and other relatives in the Indian Army and Bihar Police. When the police team of South West Delhi tried to arrest him. He fought the South West Delhi police squad when they attempted to capture him, along with 30 to 40 other people, and imprisoned them at his hideout in Patna (Bihar). Later, he left the area, said Deo.

The official reported that a female constable of the CISF in Delhi had filed a rape and criminal breach of trust complaint against the defendant with the Bindapur Police Station.

She claimed that she met the defendant on the marriage website jeewansathi.com.

"She alleged that the accused raped her. Following that, he began threatening to go viral with the video and photos if she ventured to reveal the truth, according to the police.

According to the official, the accused, together with members of his family and 30 to 40 more people, attacked the police team during a raid by the local Bindapur police station in Delhi to arrest him in Patna. The crew was then unlawfully imprisoned in a room and beaten, the official claimed. The accused had dared the Delhi Police to take him into custody.

A team from the Crime Branch also began looking into the situation after realising the seriousness of the situation. The crew received a tip that the suspect, Deepak Kumar, was taking refuge in Hazaribagh.

The accused summoned his 40 supporters and attempted to attack the police crew once more. But the criminal squad managed to subdue him with the aid of the local police, according to the official.

The official said that Kumar was a science graduate, who failed to get selected for a government job, started duping people to fulfill his needs.
