Champions League: UEFA has confirmed that Manchester City's Champions League fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach is now about to be played in Budapest. The fixture was originally intended to be played in Germany, but the German government's Corona Virus Protocol raised doubts as to whether the game could proceed to Mönchengladbach. "UEFA can confirm that the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg matches between Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City will now take place at Puskus Arena in Budapest," UEFA said in an official statement on the match date (February 24, 2021) And there will be kick-off time.

It added "UEFA would like to thank Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City for their close cooperation and support, as well as agreeing to the Hungarian Football Federation for their assistance and hosting the match in question," it said. Current travel restrictions in Germany mean that teams from the United Kingdom are not currently allowed to enter the country. These restrictions are due to covid-19 and, at present, only citizens of Germany can enter the country from other countries where variants of the virus have been detected. Germany's travel ban on foreigners associated with the new variant of covid-19 is set to expire on 17 February.

However, UEFA wanted clarity and, as a result, Manchester City's clash against Monchengladbach moved to Budapest. The second leg will be on the slate between City and Monchengladbach at the Etihad Stadium on 16 March.
