Lucknow: Recently, a minor boy from Uttar Pradesh moved the Supreme Court to donate his liver to his critically ill father. However, if the apex court's order came on this matter, the minor's father died. The court was informed in this regard on Wednesday. Following this, a bench of Justices Kaul and Abhay Oka decided to adjourn the proceedings in the case.

The matter was earlier brought to the notice of Chief Justice UU Lalit on Friday, who had directed that the matter be listed, understanding its urgency. The court had said that the son has voluntarily expressed his desire to donate his liver to the father. However, since he is a minor, he is not allowed to do so under the relevant law. The court issued a notice to the UP government in this matter and asked an official of the state government's health department to be present in the court during the hearing.

Meanwhile, the court had said that preliminary tests of the minor should be conducted at the hospital concerned to see if the liver can be donated. According to reports, in this case, the minor's mother was also ready to donate his liver, but in the medical test, he was not found fit to donate his liver. The case has also triggered a debate on whether living minors should be allowed to donate organs or not. Because according to the law, no minor can donate any part or tissue of his body before death.

A 17-year-old minor boy had recently approached the Supreme Court. The minor had said in the petition that his father's condition was critical and he needed a liver transplant immediately. I want to give my father a liver. The minor had sought permission from the court regarding this. But, by the time the court completed the hearing and pronounced the verdict, the minor's father succumbed to his injuries.
