NEW DELHI: The collapse of an under-construction railway bridge in Mizoram, which resulted in the tragic loss of 17 lives on Wednesday, has drawn heartfelt expressions of sorrow from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Kejriwal shared his deep sadness regarding the unfortunate incident in Mizoram where an under-construction railway bridge in Sairang gave way. He extended his sympathies to the affected families and offered his prayers for them. In these trying times, he urged everyone to come together in solidarity.

The incident took place in the Sairang area of Mizoram's Aizawl district. The ongoing rescue operations are tirelessly working to locate any potential survivors who might be trapped beneath the wreckage.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his condolences on Wednesday in response to the loss of lives due to the collapse of the under-construction railway bridge in Mizoram.

Shah expressed his sorrow over the tragic accident in Mizoram and revealed that he had been in contact with the Governor and Chief Minister of Mizoram, assuring them of all possible support. He acknowledged the efforts of the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and the local authorities who are actively engaged in rescue operations on-site. Shah extended his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wished a swift recovery for those who sustained injuries.

In a prior announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF (Prime Minister's National Relief Fund) for the families of each deceased. Additionally, Rs 50,000 would be provided to those who were injured in the tragic incident.

The collapse of the under-construction railway bridge in Mizoram has led to the unfortunate loss of a minimum of 17 lives, with numerous others sustaining injuries.
