Aizawl: Mizoram on Monday reported 281 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest spike in nearly a month since July 12.The new cases have pushed the total tally to 44,520, of which 12,146 are active, an official said.The number of cases being detected was less because sample test was not done at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Sunday, he said.

Of the 281 fresh COVID-19 cases, 278 were detected through Rapid Antigen Test and 3 at a TrueNat laboratory, he said.As many as 196 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 29 from Kolasib, 27 from Lunglei, 19 from Lawngtlai, eight from Mamit, and two from Champhai.

Up to 61 children were among the newly infected people.The COVID-19 death toll has climbed to 168 as one more person died in the last 24 hours.Mizoram has tested more than 6.81 lakh samples for COVID-19 till date.According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 6.39 lakh people have been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine till Saturday of which 2 lakh have received both doses of the vaccine.
