Aizawl: With the Election Commission of India rescheduling the vote counting for Mizoram's assembly elections to December 4, extensive preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and efficient process.

The state election department has confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been put in place for the scheduled counting on Monday. The Election Commission announced the revision of the counting day from December 3, citing multiple representations received from different segments of the state requesting the change.

As per the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Mizoram, the counting will take place in 13 centers spread across the state, utilizing 40 counting halls. These halls will accommodate 399 EVM tables and 56 postal ballot tables.

Approximately 4000 personnel are set to be engaged in the vote counting process, according to the state election department. The polling for Mizoram's 40-seat assembly was conducted on November 7, recording a voter turnout of 80.66 percent.

Exit polls in Mizoram have indicated a tight contest between the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), a view echoed by political observers. Both regional parties remain optimistic about securing an absolute majority to form the next government in Mizoram.

"We are confident that ZPM will secure a majority and form the government," said K Sapdanga, the ZPM Working President and candidate from Aizawl North-III constituency.

MNF, led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, ZPM led by former IPS officer Lalduhoma, and Congress contested in all 40 assembly seats, whereas BJP contested in only 23 seats in the state.
