New Delhi: Delhi Police ASI Shambhu Dayal, who was injured in a knife attack, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday (January 8). The miscreant, who was caught on the charge of mobile snatching, had attacked him with a knife. Police officials have given information in this regard. Shambhu Dayal (57), a native of Sikar in Rajasthan, had his wife, son, and two daughters in the family.

On Wednesday, a woman, a resident of Mayapuri Phase-I, complained about her husband's mobile phone being snatched and being threatened. ASI Dayal reached the spot where the complainant identified the accused. The accused, Mohammad Anees, took out a knife hidden in his shirt while on his way to the police station and attacked Dayal on his neck, chest, stomach, and back, a police official said.

Officials from the Mayapuri police station reached the spot and controlled Anish, later he was arrested, while ASI Dayal was taken to the hospital. West Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Ghanshyam Bansal said, "ASI Dayal did not allow the accused to escape even after being injured.'' He said that he also fought for life for 4 days and he died on Sunday morning. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora paid tribute to Dayal.
