265 PTC trainee jawans of Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP) located in Bhimnagar of Supaul district fell prey to food poisoning on Sunday. Out of these, the condition of six jawans is said to be critical, while 20 jawans are admitted in the sub-divisional hospital of Veerpur. The issue of jawans falling ill on such a large scale is now gaining importance. On Monday, angry with this incident, all 935 jawans undergoing training in the camp have gone on a hunger strike. The jawans are making serious allegations against the commandant of the camp and are demanding an impartial investigation of the entire matter.
The health of the soldiers deteriorated due to bad food
On Sunday morning around 8:30 am, the soldiers had puri, jalebi and kabuli chana ki sabzi for breakfast. After this, between 1.30 and 2 pm, the health of some soldiers suddenly started deteriorating. But they were not allowed to go out of the camp and were given some medicines inside the camp. By evening, the health of many soldiers deteriorated even more, after which 50 to 60 soldiers were hurriedly taken to the sub-divisional hospital in Veerpur. Gradually other soldiers also started feeling ill and by 10:30 pm this number reached 265.
Protest and hunger strike by soldiers
By Monday morning, the condition of most of the soldiers had stabilized and the doctor discharged most of them from the hospital at around 1 am after first aid. But the soldiers, who were angry with this incident, burst out in anger on Monday morning. They raised slogans against the camp commandant and complained about the poor quality of food. The soldiers say that they have been training here for the last one and a half months and since the beginning, they are being served poor quality food, but despite complaining to the officers, no action was taken.
Demand for investigation and insistence on hunger strike
The soldiers said that his health started deteriorating after having breakfast on Sunday morning. Despite repeated requests, he was not allowed to go out for treatment and treatment continued inside the camp. He was taken to the sub-divisional hospital only when his condition worsened in the evening. The soldiers allege that in the training center, 935 soldiers are being trained in a classroom with a capacity of only 400 candidates, which is intolerable. In protest against this mismanagement, the soldiers have started a hunger strike since Monday morning. Although food is ready in the camp, the soldiers are not ready to eat until an impartial investigation of the matter is done. They have demanded an impartial investigation of the entire matter by reaching Bhim Nagar to the DIG and IG.
