BHOPAL: On the 20th of July, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made a significant announcement. A retired High Court judge will be entrusted with the task of probing the allegations of irregularities in the 'patwari' recruitment exam conducted by the revenue department on April 26 in Madhya Pradesh.

The exam results, declared in May and June, have been under scrutiny by the Congress, which have raised suspicions about its conduct. According to their claims, an overwhelming number of successful candidates, seven out of ten, hailed from the same test center in Gwalior. What adds to the suspicion is that the said center is run by a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator.

Furthermore, Congress has pointed out that a significant proportion of those who cleared the exam belonged to the Gwalior-Chambal region.

To investigate these allegations, Retired Justice of Honorable High Court Rajendra Kumar Verma has been appointed to lead the inquiry committee, which will delve into the Group-2, Sub Group-4, and patwari recruitment examination conducted by the Staff Selection Board. Chief Minister Chouhan made this announcement through a tweet late last night.

The inquiry committee is expected to present its recommendations to the government by the 31st of August. In response to the allegations that surfaced on the 13th of July, CM Chouhan had already put a hold on the appointments of successful candidates.

The Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, have been vocal about their accusations against the BJP. They have accused the ruling party of playing with the future of the youth and avoiding a proper investigation into the exam conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board.

The issue has sparked protests in Bhopal and Indore after a leading Hindu newspaper published a report highlighting the alleged irregularities.

Arun Yadav, a senior Congress leader, has been particularly vocal, stating that eight out of the ten selected candidates are from the Gwalior-Chambal division. Among them, seven hail from a single center, located in a college owned by a BJP MLA.

The matter at hand demands a thorough and impartial investigation, and the government is expected to act upon the inquiry committee's recommendations with utmost seriousness.
