KOLKATA: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to Vivekananda at his ancestral residence in Kolkata on Tuesday. A towering spiritual philosopher, Vivekananda, was born in 1863 in Kolkata and is accredited for popularising the Vedantic ideas.

In Kolkata, she also met with Sukanta Majumdar, the West Bengal BJP leader and a BJP MP. The NDA contender has been visiting different states to solicit lawmakers' support.

The YSRCongress Party, the BJD, and the Akali Dal are all on her side. Shiv Sena lawmakers requested support for Murmu earlier on Monday after attending a conference on presidential elections that party leader Uddhav Thackeray organised in Mumbai.

"In our discussion on Monday, we talked about Droupadi Murmu, the NDA's presidential candidate.. Supporting Murmu does not mean supporting BJP.  In a day or two, the Shiv Sena's role will be obvious; party chairman Uddhav Thackeray will decide "Sanjay Raut, the leader of the Shiv Sena, Former minister for Odisha and former governor of Jharkhand, Droupadi Murmu.

She would become India's second woman president and the nation's first tribal leader if she were to win the election. The first presidential candidate from Odisha to represent a significant political party or coalition is Droupadi Murmu.
