Muzaffarpur: A college student in this town alleged that objectionable remarks were made against her by a male teacher who got irritated when she refused to take off hijab during an exam on Sunday.

The incident took place at MDDM College, Muzaffarpur. The students alleged, they were requested to remove their hijabs during the exam so that officials could look for Bluetooth devices. The girl pupils reportedly opposed regular checks to stop exam fraud. The authorities reportedly told them to leave the hall after that.

We were taking the exam in the classroom when the teacher requested us to remove our hijabs because she thought we might be wearing a Bluetooth gadget. The teacher asked us to leave when we refused to remove our headscarf, the female student reported.

The college administration described it as a routine inspection, but the students exaggerated it on the basis of religion and turned it into a bigger scandal. Dr. Kanupriya, the principal of MDDM College, reported that a student became "aggressive" when requested to remove her headscarf so that it could be examined to see if she was hiding a Bluetooth device. She stated that while she wouldn't take the exams, she wouldn't expose her ears. Then she began bringing up this matter in terms of religion," the principal claimed.

"It's astonishing that a class 11th girl will behave like this," she said. It appears that someone misled her in the name of hijab and religion. On school grounds, there is no discrimination based on caste or religion.

To get things under control, the college administration had to contact the police. The MDDM College principal reiterated that there is no caste or religious discrimination on school grounds and that the student was incited over the issue in the name of religion. Relevantly, the debate over the hijab in schools, which started in Karnataka, now appears to have spread to Bihar.

It is important to note that exam cheating is a serious issue in Bihar that has not yet been resolved. The controversy surrounding fake toppers has given the Bihar board exams a bad reputation in recent years. Ruby Rai allegedly placed first in the Bihar Board exams years ago, but it was later discovered that she was unable to specify the topics she had excelled in.
