New Delhi:- NASCAR will test Monday and Tuesday at Richmond Speedway to try out a new platform for short and long-distance races. One of the purposes of the test is to try to limit turbulence or "dirty air" as cars pass through traffic. Teams will also use Goodyear's softer compound tires during practice sessions.

Christopher Bell (no. 20 Toyota), Harrison Burton (no. 21 Ford), William Byron (no. 24 Chevrolet), Justin Haley (no. 31 Chevrolet), Ryan Preece (no. 41 Ford) and Noah Gragson (no. 41 Ford). 42 Chevrolet) will form the test drive group.

This test was originally planned for New Hampshire. NASCAR moved it to Richmond after rain forced the Cup Series race to be postponed. Elton Sawyer, senior vice president of NASCAR racing, appeared Tuesday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio's "The Morning Drive." He provided more details about the upcoming test and outlined a timeline for possible changes.

"We're basically just working on the short-haul package," Sawyer said. “There is a new lower wing – a splitter if you will – that has been tested in the wind tunnel. Lots of work (Calculation of fluid dynamics). Simulation has been performed. The results have been very positive from all the tests we've done so far.

Sawyer explains that the final test for this new short circuit pack was to put it on a track with multiple cars racing around each other. If the testing goes smoothly, NASCAR and its teams can begin preparing parts and components for use during the 2024 Cup season.

Rain forced the test to move to Richmond, but that was just one of the potential tracks where riders could test the new pack. As Bell explained to Pocono, NASCAR has several options it can use for this test. Both Richmond and New Hampshire are on the list. "Personally, I probably don't care, but I know a lot of guys who went against Richmond with the races that NASCAR put out," Bell said in a media release.

"At our meeting, a lot of people said that Richmond is probably not the place to do it because tire wear is so important and there's a pretty big difference between good cars on the long haul and bad cars. They were concerned that the cars in Richmond would be a little more segregated than in a low-tire exemption like a place like Loudon.

The test location may not be ideal for some drivers, but it does provide an opportunity for direct comparison and contrast. Bell and his test participants will complete 400 laps around Richmond on Sunday (3 p.m. ET on US Network). They will then immediately spend two days comparing the current package with the one that can be used in the next season.

The NASCAR Teams are now going for the next practice test drive at the Richmond Raceway next week that will be just for two days. This happened due to the rain got up and they had to postpone the race immediately and had to shift the race from the new Hamsphire to the Richmond raceway.
