On Thursday, Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that members of the Upper House should not attempt to avoid being summoned by any investigating agency. It is their responsibility to respect the law and legal provisions. Immediately after zero hours, Venkaiah Naidu himself, without naming anyone, said, 'I would like to tell the members that they should not postpone production before any investigating agency citing the responsibility of the House. We make laws ourselves, so we should respect the law and the legal process.
This applies in all cases. You can say that the Parliament session is going on, so a second date should be set. However, you cannot avoid law enforcement agencies. I am only interpreting the provisions of law and rules. Naidu's announcement was appreciated by some members.
Subhash Chandra, Rajya Sabha member and promoter of Essel Group, did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently citing the current Parliament session and other reasons. The ED had issued summons against Yash Bank promoter Rana Kapoor and others against Subhash Chandra to appear in the ongoing money laundering case.
