Women's Commission tightens its grip on pornographic content on Twitter, demands action in a week

New Delhi: The problems of Twitter in serving pornographic material are on the rise. Now, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and asked the Twitter to take action in the matter within a week. NCW Chairman Rekha Sharma has written to Twitter India MD, Manish Maheshwari asking him to remove all pornographic materials on the microblogging platform within a week.

In this case, the Commission has written to the Commissioner of Delhi Police asking the Commissioner of Delhi Police to thoroughly investigate the serving of obscenity on Twitter and take legal action in the matter. The Commission has slammed Twitter. The Commission has admitted that Twitter did not take any action even after receiving a complaint in advance regarding the matter. Expressing concern over Twitter's attitude, the Commission said that by serving such banned materials, the Twitter has not only violated Indian law but also violated its policies. The Commission has asked the Twitter to immediately remove all accounts through which such content is shared.

Earlier, Delhi Police had registered a case under POCSO and IT Act against Twitter for serving obscene content. Delhi Police has issued a notice to microblogging site Twitter seeking information on the steps taken against the dissemination of obscene content related to children on its platform.
