Colombo: The coronavirus, which is wreaking havoc around the world, still remains an enemy of people's lives. In such a situation, a vaccination campaign is being carried out at a rapid pace all over the world. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, today lifted a nationwide lockdown 40 days ago to prevent rising coronavirus cases. However, unnecessary travel restrictions will continue as a precautionary measure.

Sri Lanka had the third wave of coronavirus in mid-April when health services were adversely affected. Following the recommendations of medical professionals, the government had decided to impose a lockdown on August 20 as health facilities were under a lot of pressure due to the third wave of the covid-19 epidemic. The Covid-19 lockdown was lifted at 4 am today, with new guidelines issued to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

The Sri Lanka Medical Association has welcomed the government's decision to lift the lockdown and said it should be done in a phased manner. The Health Ministry has said that some restrictions will continue as a precautionary measure even after the lockdown is lifted. As per the new guidelines, all unnecessary trips and all types of gatherings cannot be made from 10 pm to 4 am. Travel is also prohibited between provinces.
