Navneet Kumar Sehgal Appointed as New Prasar Bharati Chairman After Four-Year Vacancy

Former government official Navneet Kumar Sehgal has been named the new head of Prasar Bharati, a role left vacant for four years. Sehgal takes over from A Surya Prakash, who reached the maximum age of 70 in February 2020, ending his term.

According to an announcement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting dated March 15, 2024, Sehgal's appointment comes following the recommendation of the Selection Committee. He will serve as Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Board for a term of three years or until he reaches the age of seventy, whichever comes first.

The selection process was overseen by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who also serves as the chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The committee responsible for selecting the Prasar Bharati chairman comprises the Vice President, the chairperson of the Press Council of India, and a nominee of the President.

During the meeting chaired by Vice President Dhankhar, attendees included Justice Ranjana Desai (retired), chairperson of the Press Council of India, and Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of Information and Broadcasting.
