Tragic demise of NCP leader Devi Prasad Tripathi, had been a consultant to Rajiv Gandhi

New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) General Secretary Devi Prasad Tripathi passed away on Thursday morning. He was 67 and was ill for several days. He was battling cancer. Tripathi is survived by his wife and three sons. Tripathi breathed his last at his residence here at around 9.15 am. His funeral will be performed on Friday.

Born in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Tripathi shone with politics and was also the president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union. He also went to jail during the Emergency imposed during the Indira Gandhi government. He later joined Congress and became Advisor to Rajiv Gandhi. He later joined NCP under the leadership of Sharad Pawar. He was a Rajya Sabha MP and also the editor of a magazine think tank.

NCP leader Supriya Sule tweeted that D.P. I am deeply saddened by Tripathi's death. He was the general secretary of NCP and guide to all of us. Sule said that he gave us valuable advice and guidance from the time of establishment of NCP which we will remember. May his peace rest in his soul. My condolences to his family.
