Ahmedabad: The Congress has entered into a pre-poll alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for the assembly elections to be held in Gujarat next month. Sharad Pawar's party NCP will field candidates on 3 out of 182 seats in Gujarat. Today on Friday (November 11), the leaders of both parties have announced this. In the 2017 assembly elections, Congress-NCP contested separately. Kandhal Jadeja was the only MLA, who came after winning on the NCP's election symbol. He is currently an MLA from the Kutiana assembly constituency of the Porbandar district.
Announcing the pre-poll alliance, Gujarat Congress unit chief Jagdish Thakor has said, 'NCP will contest the upcoming assembly elections in alliance with Congress. NCP will contest on 3 seats. These 3 seats are from Umreh in Anand district, Naroda in Ahmedabad district and Deogarh Baria in Dahod district.' At present, there are MLAs of the BJP in these three areas. Congress Gujarat unit president Jagdish Thakor said, "The Congress has decided to forge an alliance with those parties which had remained with us at the national level during the government of UPA-1 and UPA-2."
Thakor has expressed confidence that the Congress, India's oldest party, will return to power after 24 years by winning 125 seats in the state. He said that Congress is ready to form an alliance with those who are like-minded and who are ready to protect the Constitution and come together against the fascist forces for the unity and integrity of the country.
