Nellore: BJP State Vice President G Chandramouli while interacting with the media on Sunday said that GO No 217 has affected the livelihood of fishermen. Fishermen have lost their traditional rights to fish in canals, lakes, tanks, rivers and seas.

The BJP leader said the party's state president Somu Veeraraju had written a letter to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on the issue and urged the government to provide boats, fishing nets, gear and cold storage facilities to the fishermen. He blamed both the TDP and the ruling party on the Gangavaram port issue. He alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy sold 2,800 acres of land attached to the Gangavaram port for Rs 4,600 crore, while giving 10.4 per cent stake in the state to the Adani group for Rs 640 crore.

He informed that the state government has not taken any steps for the construction of ghats and has failed to provide employment to the fishermen community. He said that they would protest against GO No. 217 on September 22 in front of the Collectorate across the state. They said they would not allow the YSRC leaders to continue to control the water bodies. State co-convener of fishermen cell A Janardhan was present.
