New Delhi: Nepal has released an Indian citizen whom they took in custody during a shootout incident on the Indo-Nepal border on Friday. Indian citizen Ram Lagan Rai was apprehended by Nepal Police on Friday morning after the shooting incident. Ram Lagan Rai was released on  Saturday.

During the ongoing tension between India and Nepal, there was firing on the border on Friday, in which one person was killed and four people were injured. The SP of Sitamarhi in Bihar has submitted its report on this incident. According to the report, the security forces of Nepal had detained a person named Lagan Rai. This incident is of Janki city limits of Lalbandi in Pipra Parsine Panchayat of Sonbarsa police station area of Sitamarhi near Indo-Nepal border in Bihar. SSB Director General K Rajesh Chandra told that the incident happened around 8.40 am on Friday morning. A family was going to Nepal, who were intercepted by the Nepalese security forces at the border and asked to return. There was a dispute about this matter. Meanwhile, Nepalese security forces opened fire.

This firing incident occurred at a time when there is tension between the two countries. For the past few days, the border dispute between India and Nepal has deepened. This dispute is about the area of Kalapani and Lipulekh. In November 2019, a new map released by the Ministry of Home Affairs of India included the Kalapani area in India, which Nepal has been claiming. Nepal is also telling the territory of India as its own.
