Kathmandu: Nepal plans to restart passenger train services after a 7-year suspension. The set of trains procured from India by Kathmandu has reached Janakpur city. Talking to the press, Railway Department Director-General Balram Mishra said, "Diesel-electric multiple-unit rail sets have reached Janakpur at around 1.40 pm on Friday. "
The railway department has said that it will take at least one and a half months to restore the services as they are currently working to recruit the necessary human resources. This will be the first broad gauge passenger railway service in the country. As per the information revealed by the Department, the service will start from Kurwas in Janakpur City to Jayanagar bordering India and the distance between them is about 35 km.
Earlier also, the Janakpur-Jayanagar train service was operational, but on a narrow-gauge line and the service was completely stopped seven years ago. To resume the railway service, the department gradually made a plan to recruit more than 200 employees. Mishra said, "Initially we will resume service with the help of Indian technical staff. "
