Nepal to start vaccination drive for elderlies as it receives Made in India corona vaccine

India has started its vaccination drive against corona. Itis one of the world's biggest drugmakers and an increasing number of countries have already approached it for procuring coronavirus vaccines. It has recently sent a vaccine to Nepal under vaccine Maitri. After receiving the vaccine, Nepal has expedited preparations to start inoculating the elderly and most vulnerable age groups from next month.

A batch of one million Covishield vaccines developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) was delivered on Sunday via an Air India flight. Mahendra Prasad Shrestha, Chief Specialist at the Ministry of Health and Population said, From March 7, we will be starting our inoculation drive targeting different age groups in the village council and other local bodies. At first, we will administer it on people above 60 years and after analysing responses, we will roll it out for various age groups."

India have so far supplied vaccines to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, the UAE, Brazil, Morocco, Bahrain, Oman, Egypt, Algeria, Kuwait and South Africa. After sending vaccines to many negibouring countrues, India sent 13 boxes of COVID-19 vaccine to Mongolia on Sunday.

Meanwhile, The total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 111.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.46 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
