WELLINGTON :  Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, disclosed on Saturday that she had tested positive for Covid-19.

"Despite my best attempts, I have sadly joined the rest of my family and tested positive for Covid-19," Ardern said on Saturday morning on social media. Ardern has been isolated at home with her family since her fiancee Clarke Gayford tested positive on Sunday, according to state media reports.

"We have been isolating since Clarke's positive test on Sunday. On Wednesday, Neve (Ardern's daughter) tested positive, and I had a weak positive last night and a strong positive this morning "Ardern stated.  "I hope anyone else isolating or dealing with Covid is taking excellent care of themselves," Ardern added.

The Ministry of Health announced on Friday that New Zealand had registered 7,441 new community cases of Covid-19, with 2,503 of these reported in Auckland, the country's largest metropolis.

Since the start of the epidemic, the government has reported 1,026,715 confirmed cases of Covid-19.
