CHANDIGAR:  At the NITI Aayog governing council meeting that is held on August 7 in Delhi,  where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, he will bring up a number of issues, including a legal guarantee to the minimum support price (MSP) for crops and farm debt.

Talking to reporters in Chandigarh on Saturday,  Mann slammed his predecessors Charanjit Singh Channi and Amarinder Singh for not attending such meetings earlier.

The seventh meeting of the NITI Aayog's governing council, the top policy think tank of the government, will be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "I am going to attend the NITI Aayog meeting. I have done my homework on Punjab issues which will be put up during the meeting,” the Chief Minister said. He said that any representative from Punjab would attend the NITI Aayog conference for the first time in three years.

"Water, farmer debt, a legal guarantee to the MSP, the canal system, the cleansing of the "buddha nallah" [in Ludhiana], the BBMB [Bhakra Beas Management Board], and also health-related issues will all be brought up,  Mann said.

The subject of direct international flights from the airports in Amritsar and Mohali to London, Chicago, San Francisco, and Vancouver will be brought up during the Chief Minister's meeting with Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Delhi, the Chief Minister said.

In response to a question regarding the MSP committee set up by the Centre,  the CM  said the government should include farmer representatives as opposed to those who supported the farm rules that have now been overturned.
The Center set up a committee on MSP last month. The group will investigate how to increase the system's efficiency and transparency so that MSP is accessible to farmers.
