New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday cracked down on Air India, imposing a fine of Rs 10 lakh. The reason behind this fine is very special. In fact, there were some cases wherein it was said that even after the passengers had a valid ticket, Air India did not allow them to travel due to overbooking nor was any compensation paid in lieu of that ticket.

In a statement, dgca has said that it is "a matter of grave concern and unacceptable" that the airline was not even giving any compensation after depriving "helpless passengers" of boarding and there was no policy in this regard. Dgca recently reiterated existing rules on passenger compensation and asked airlines to strictly follow the rules. Dgca Director General Arun Kumar said in a statement, "Such cases were investigated by the DGCA in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Delhi.

During this time, it was revealed that Air India did not comply with the regulations. The airline was subsequently issued a show-cause notice by dgca and a personal hearing in this regard was also conducted. According to the DGCA, Air India probably has no policy of its own in this regard and does not pay compensation to passengers. The DGCA said that after all this is a serious concern and unacceptable.
