Roger Michell, the British stage, television, and film director whose films included the unforgettable romcom 'Notting Hill,' died on Thursday. He was 65 years old. Michell's family did not say where he died or what caused his death. "It is with great regret that the family of Roger Michell, filmmaker, writer, and father to Harry, Rosie, Maggie, and Sparrow, announces his death on September 22nd at the age of 65," Michell's publicist stated in a statement.

Julia Roberts, an Oscar winner, paid tribute to Mitchell in an interview with E! News, describing him as "such a kind and gentleman." “He always had a nice grin on his face and a great bit of advice to provide. I consider myself really lucky to have had the opportunity to work with him.” Roberts also sent condolences to Harry, Rosie, Maggie, and Sparrow, whom she described as "the genuine stars of his life." In the meanwhile, Michell, whose cause of death has not been revealed, was known for directing plenty of other A-list films in addition to Notting Hill, which starred Hugh Grant.

Venus, a 2006 romantic comedy-drama that earned actor Peter O'Toole an Oscar nomination, Changing Lanes, a 2002 thriller starring Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson, Morning Glory, a 2010 romantic comedy-drama starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, and Diane Keaton, and Hyde Park on Hudson, a 2012 biographical comedy-drama starring Bill Murray as former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, were among the films on the list.

Rainn Wilson, meanwhile, paid tribute to the late filmmaker. "To the brilliant filmmaker ROGER MICHELL (Notting Hill, Venus, Blackbird), three sad shouts." He had a rare combination of insight, talent, compassion, and intellect. Such astute benevolence. Working with him on #Blackbird taught me a lot. "And angelic flights will sing thee to thy rest." #RIP Michell, on the other hand, was well-known in London for his theatrical productions, as well as his filmmaking work, which includes the forthcoming Elizabeth documentary about Queen Elizabeth II.
