Ola Cabs, the Indian ride-hailing giant, has officially moved away from Google Maps and transitioned to its own mapping service, Ola Maps. This strategic shift, announced by Bhavish Aggarwal, co-founder and Chairman of Ola Group, is expected to save the company nearly Rs 100 crore annually.

Transition from Google Maps
Last month, after ending its partnership with Microsoft Azure, Ola Group has now completely exited Google Maps. Aggarwal urged users to update their Ola apps as needed to ensure a smooth transition.

"We used to spend Rs 100 crore annually on Google Maps, but this month we've cut that to zero by fully migrating to our in-house Ola Maps!" Aggarwal stated, highlighting the financial impact of the move.

Development of Ola Maps
Ola Maps is undergoing enhancements such as street view, neural radiance fields (NERFs), indoor images, 3D mapping, and drone maps, as disclosed by Aggarwal. The integration of cloud services from Krutrim AI will provide application programming interfaces (APIs) to further enhance Ola Maps. These APIs facilitate communication between different software components.

Krutrim AI and Cloud Services
Krutrim Cloud offers GPU-as-a-service on its AI computing infrastructure, allowing enterprises and developers to train and optimize their models effectively. This capability underscores Ola Group's commitment to leveraging advanced AI technologies for its operations.

Transition to Krutrim AI
The decision to transition all operations to Krutrim AI was announced by Aggarwal in May, following the termination of the partnership with Microsoft Azure. This move aligns with Ola Group's strategy to consolidate its technological capabilities and enhance service offerings.

Future Plans
With the launch of Krutrim AI, Ola Group aims to expand its cloud services and mapping solutions. Aggarwal also announced the availability of cloud GPUs on demand through Krutrim AI, priced from Rs 105 per hour to over Rs 1,160 per hour, depending on the type of GPU required.
