SANAA: A delegation from the Sultanate of Oman has arrived in Yemen to mediate in the peace process. The Omani team arrived in Yemen's capital Sanaa on Friday to persuade the Houthi militia to join in a peace process with the country's government.

"The Omani team will meet with key leaders of the (Houthi) organisation as part of efforts to lift the embargo and end the war," al-Masirah TV, which is controlled by the Houthis, stated without providing any information.

As per reports, Yemen's warring parties agreed to adopt a UN-brokered truce on April 2 that was supposed to last two months. All land, airborne, and naval military offensive actions across Yemen and its borders have been halted as part of the cease-fire.

Oman, which shares borders with both Yemen and Saudi Arabia, has played a key role in mediating the ceasefire. Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, praised Oman's "crucial role in helping the negotiations."

Since late 2014, when the Iran-backed Houthi militia seized control of several northern districts and drove the Saudi-backed government out of Sanaa, Yemen has been engulfed in civil conflict.

According to the UN, the war has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced 4 million people, and brought the country to the verge of hunger.
