Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police apprehended a 36-year-old individual accused of defrauding numerous people through an online gaming platform. The suspect, identified as Hitesh Goyal, a resident of Haryana, was arrested, and authorities seized Rs 1.40 crore in cash, 52 debit cards, 23 mobile phones, three hard disks, two laptops, and 36 bank chequebooks from him.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner K Sreenivasa Reddy revealed that Goyal, in collaboration with his friend Sanjeev residing in Dubai and Hong Kong, orchestrated scams through the online gaming website 'dafabet.com,' defrauding individuals across the country. Sanjeev allegedly colluded with the website organizers operating from the Philippines, Dubai, Hong Kong, and China to deceive the public.

Reddy explained that Sanjeev shared various bank accounts and merchant IDs with the website organizers to facilitate the scams. The police took action based on a complaint from a Hyderabad resident who reported being cheated through the 'dafabet.com' website, resulting in the transfer of Rs 70 lakh to an account provided by the accused.

The police arrested the accused under relevant sections, including 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating), along with sections of the TS Amendment Gaming Act of 2017. The investigation is ongoing.
