Islamabad: Shortly before, Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has received a major setback towards the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Supreme Court has suspended the notification of the extension of the tenure of General Bajwa till tomorrow. Along with this, the court has issued a notice to all the parties including the Pakistan Army Chief. Significantly, General Bajwa is retiring from the post of Pakistan Army Chief on 29 November. Now the hearing of this case has been postponed till Wednesday. During the hearing, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said that clearly the summary and approval given for the extension of the tenure of the army chief is not correct.

According to the information received, on August 19 this year, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan extended the term of General Bajwa for the next three years. The notification issued by the Prime Minister's Office stated that 'General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been appointed as the Chief of Army Staff for another term of three years from the date of completion of the present term.' During the hearing, the judge said that only the President of Pakistan has the power to extend the tenure of the army chief. At the same time, Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan told the court that the tenure of the army chief was extended only after the approval of the President. Also, the cabinet approved the summary for this.

In response to which the Pakistani judge said that the extension of tenure was approved by only 11 out of 25 cabinet members. He further said that 14 members of the Cabinet did not give any opinion due to unavailability. Please tell that on August 19 this year, Imran approved the extension of the tenure as Bajwa's army chief. In August, a notification issued by the office of Prime Minister Imran Khan said that General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been appointed as the Chief of Army Staff for another term for three years from the date of completion of the current term. It was said in this notification that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the regional security environment.
