The capital braces for what appears to be a final showdown between the government and the opposition, amid continuing political chaos and a growing influx of protesters from opposition parties towards Islamabad, aiming to bring the capital to a halt until the fate of Imran Khan is decided through the opposition-led No Confidence Voting.

Imran Khan's premiership is facing a massive challenge from the opposition alliance, which includes at least 20 opposition parties and has decided to take on Imran Khan after three years of sitting in the opposition benches and ensure that he is removed from his position as Prime Minister of Pakistan via a no-confidence vote in the National Assembly of Pakistan. Many members of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Pakistan (TTP), as well as associate political groups, have defected and joined with the opposition parties, instilling confidence in the opposition ranks that they would be able to claim majority this time during the no-confidence vote.

With political tensions at an all-time high, Pakistan's Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed has hinted at holding early elections, which he indicated may happen as soon as the federal budget for fiscal year 2022-23 is announced.

Rasheed said during a news conference that he recommended Prime Minister Imran Khan to call elections after the budget, claiming that Khan's popularity had risen as a result of the opposition's no-confidence motion against him.
