Imphal: On January 10, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee claimed that the BJP-led Manipur government has refused permission for the launch of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound in Imphal East. The Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, allegedly declined the venue request, stating that the state government would not allocate any public lane for the yatra. The Congress party deemed this denial as a violation of people's rights and political rights, expressing disappointment. Despite the refusal, the Congress party decided to shift the venue to the Khongjom War Memorial Complex at Thoubal.

Keisham Meghachandra Singh, MPCC president, called the refusal "very unfortunate" and emphasized that the yatra aims to address issues related to youth and women, focusing on social, political, and economic justice. After the rejection, the Congress party chose an alternative location near the Khongjom War Memorial Complex in Thoubal. The yatra, spanning 15 states over 66 days, from Manipur to Mumbai, is set to commence on January 14, covering 6,700 miles.

In response to the denial, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal criticized the government's decision, highlighting the non-political nature of the yatra and its focus on bringing justice and peace to Manipur. He stated that despite their efforts to engage with the government, they received information that permission was declined. The yatra is part of the Congress party's initiative to travel from Manipur to Mumbai, covering multiple states, and address issues related to justice and social harmony.
