Petition filed in HC demanding entertainment for Tihar jail prisoners

New Delhi: A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court. This petition has demanded to provide means of entertainment to the prisoners lodged in the High-Security Ward of Tihar Jail. The petition said that in view of Corona, the mental condition of the prisoners living in the High-Security Ward may deteriorate since their families have been barred from visiting the prison since Corona. He remains imprisoned in his cell all day. Any means of entertainment should be provided once in 24 hours to keep the prisoners in normal life and keep away from mental diseases.

This PIL has been filed by the Delhi Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. Advocate Harpreet Singh Hora, belonging to the Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, has submitted an affidavit in the court that the prisoner of Tihar Jail Jagtar Singh Hawara has written a letter to him. Jagtar Singh Hawara is imprisoned in the High-Security Ward in Tihar Jail. Jagtar Singh Hawara is lodged in Tihar Jail here after he was convicted in the murder of 12th CM of Punjab Beant Singh.

Harpreet Singh Hora is also a lawyer for Jagtar Singh Hawara. Hawara's lawyer said in an affidavit in the court that due to Coronavirus, the jail administration has stopped the prisoners of the High-Security Zone to meet their families.
