JAIPUR: India Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, April 12, flagged off Rajasthan's first and the country's fifteenth  Vande Bharat Express train via video conferencing.

Speaking at the launch event, PM  said the Vande Bharat Express enriches the spirit of 'India First, Always First'. ''Vande Bharat Express has become synonymous with development, modernity, self-reliance and stability. It will immensely benefit the tourism industry of Rajasthan,'' he said. ''Fortunate to flag off the 6th Vande Bharat Express in the last two months,'' Prime Minister remarked

The PM further said that ''selfish and mean politics'' had always overshadowed the modernization of the railways in the past.  ''Sadly, selfish and mean politics had always overshadowed the modernization of the railways. Large-scale corruption neither let development took place in the railways nor did it let the railways' selection process be transparent,'' Prime Minister said.

Beginning on April 13, the new Vande Bharat train will run regularly between Ajmer and Delhi Cantonment, stopping in Jaipur, Alwar, and Gurgaon. It will take five hours and fifteen minutes to get from Delhi Cantonment to Ajmer.

The Ajmer-Delhi Cantonment Vande Bharat Express will be the first semi-high-speed passenger train operating on high-rise overhead electric (OHE) infrastructure in the world.
