Thiruvananthapuram: PM Narendra Modi reached Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSCC) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on Tuesday. ISRO Chief S Somnath was also present with him. PM Modi inaugurated 3 space infrastructure projects worth about Rs 1800 crore here and reviewed the country's first manned space mission Gaganyaan. PM Modi announced the names of the astronauts to be sent on the Gaganyaan mission and gave them astronaut wings. The astronauts who will be sent on the Gaganyaan mission include Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla. All four have been trained in Russia.

Due to this, PM Modi said that some time ago the country got acquainted with 4 Gaganyaan passengers for the first time. These are not just 4 names or 4 humans, these are the 4 powers that are going to take the aspirations of 140 crore Indians to space. After 40 years, an Indian is going to space, but this time the time is ours, the count-down is also ours and the rocket is also ours. PM Modi said- I want everyone to stand up and greet our astronauts. In the development journey of every nation, there come some moments which define the present as well as the coming generations. This is such a moment for India today, our present generation is very fortunate which is getting the fame of historical works in water, land, sky and space.

PM Modi said- I am very happy to know that most of the equipment used in Gaganyaan is made in India. It is a wonderful coincidence that when India is taking off to become the third largest economy in the world, India's Gaganyaan is also going to take our space sector to new heights. PM Modi said- 21st century India is surprising the world with its potential. In the last 10 years, we have launched approximately 400 satellites, whereas in the previous 10 years only 33 satellites were launched. Women power is being given great importance in our space sector. Be it Chandrayaan or Gaganyaan, no such mission can be imagined without women scientists.
