Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made history as the first non-Bhutanese individual to be awarded Bhutan's highest civilian honor, the 'Order of the Druk Gyalpo'. During his two-day state visit to Thimphu, he was bestowed with this prestigious award by Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The 'Order of the Druk Gyalpo' is a lifetime achievement award and holds the utmost significance in Bhutan's honor system. Only four distinguished personalities have ever received this accolade.

This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for PM Modi, who is also the first foreign head of government to receive this esteemed award. The 'Order of the Druk Gyalpo' takes precedence over all other orders, decorations, and medals in Bhutan, emphasizing its importance in the country.

Previous recipients of this prestigious award include Her Majesty Royal Queen Grandmother Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck (2008), His Holiness Je Thrizur Tenzin Dendup (68th Je Khenpo of Bhutan, 2008), and His Holiness Je Khenpo Trulku Ngawang Jigme Choedra (2018), who is the Chief Abbot of the Central Monastic Body of Bhutan.

PM Modi's achievement highlights the significance of the 'Order of the Druk Gyalpo' and reinforces the strong bond between India and Bhutan. The recognition underscores the deep respect and honor bestowed upon him by Bhutan's King and acknowledges his contributions to strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
