Garba Dance Greets PM Modi in Bhutan – Traditional Welcome Delights All

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a heartwarming reception in Bhutan on Friday, March 22. Youngsters welcomed the PM at his hotel in Thimphu with a graceful Garba performance, dancing to the tunes of a song written by PM Modi himself.

In traditional Gujarati attire, Ghagra-choli, and Kurta Paijama, the performers radiated festive vibes. PM Modi also met and interacted with members of the Indian diaspora and locals of Bhutan before the performance.

The Bhutanese Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, expressed his warm welcome to PM Modi in a Hindi post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Bhutan mein aapka swagat hai mere bade bhai @narendramodi Ji."

Upon his arrival at the Paro airport, PM Modi was warmly received by the Bhutanese Prime Minister and accorded a red-carpet ceremonial welcome. The entire 45-kilometre route from Paro International Airport to Thimphu was lined with Bhutanese people, adorned with Indian and Bhutanese flags and banners leading up to the hotel.

Members of the Indian community expressed their happiness, feeling honored to meet PM Modi, the report reads.

During his visit, PM Modi will partake in various programs aimed at strengthening the India-Bhutan bilateral partnership. The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “Prime Minister will inaugurate the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu, a state-of-the-art hospital built with the assistance of the Government of India."

The ministry had earlier mentioned that PM Modi's visit would offer an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on bilateral and regional matters and deliberate on ways to expand and intensify their exemplary partnership for the benefit of their peoples.
