New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are expected to meet at the SCO Summit. It is believed that a bilateral meeting between the two heads of state may also take place during this period. Meanwhile, Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) General Assembly Zhang Ming is on a three-day visit to Pakistan. He will also invite Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif to attend the conference. The SCO annual conference is scheduled to be held on September 15-16.

This will be the first time in six years that the PMs of the two rival countries will be under the same roof. Meanwhile, bilateral talks between the prime ministers of the two countries cannot be ruled out. However, Shehbaz Sharif is considered to be a staunch opponent of India. Before being sworn in as Pakistani PM, he had said that he wanted "peace with India" but it was not possible before any concrete resolution on the Kashmir issue.

On the other hand, there are reports in the Pakistani media that there was no bilateral dialogue between the two heads of state and "it was not offered by India", but if India offers talks, there will be a "positive response from Pakistan." China, India, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are permanent members of the SCO Group. Enhancing the capacity and authority of the organisation, peace in the region, and reducing poverty and food security will be the main agenda at the summit next month.
