Nashik: In a major reshuffle, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday transferred or promoted 40 senior police officers. The list also includes the name of Nashik Police Commissioner Deepak Pandey. Deepak Pandey's name had recently hit the headlines when he ordered no religious hymns and songs to be played on loudspeakers 15 minutes before azaan and later on loudspeakers within 100 metres of mosques in Nashik.

Not only this, Deepak Pandey had recently written a letter alleging that the gang of the land mafia is harassing the common man with the help of revenue officials. However, after the letter became public, they came under the scanner of the government. Jayant Naikanavare will now be the Nashik Police Commissioner in place of Pandey. He was now deputy IGP (VIP security). Nashik Police Commissioner Deepak Pandey has been sent as a special IG. He was criticised by Balasaheb Thorat, the revenue minister in the Maharashtra government, for making the letter against the revenue officials public.

In fact, there is an uproar in Maharashtra these days over loudspeakers. Recently, MNS chief Raj Thackeray had demanded that loudspeakers be removed from mosques in Maharashtra by May 3, or that Hanuman Chalisa will be played on loudspeakers in front of mosques. According to media reports, Pandey had written a letter to the DGP in March seeking his transfer out of Nashik city. Not only this, he had written a letter to the head of the state police questioning the officials of the revenue department.
