The national chains in India are reporting a very positive reception to the Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush. The Om Raut-directed film, which is being produced by Bhushan Kumar, has already sold about 3.50 lakh tickets across the three chains (PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis) for its opening weekend as of Wednesday at 3 p.m. PVR is out in front with 1.77 lakh tickets, Inox is second with 1.05 lakh tickets, and Cinepolis is third with 73,000 tickets.

The Telugu version only sold 1.20 lakh tickets at the three multiplexes, whereas the Hindi version sold 2.30 lakh tickets throughout the course of the weekend across national chains PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. Adipurush's advance booking is distributed fairly for the weekend, which is also a promising indicator. With strong word-of-mouth, the movie can do well on Saturday and Sunday thanks to the support of families.  Adipurush appears to be poised for a strong start at the box office, especially outside of the metros, even after discounting some bulk reservations that are occurring in the national chains.

Om Raut must now live up to the original hype for the movie and deliver on the substance front. Adipurush is expected to have a strong Telugu and Hindi debut, and the rest will depend on how the film picks up steam after that. As of Wednesday at 3 p.m., 1.25 lakh Adipurush tickets had been sold in the three chains on the first day, while 45,000 Telugu tickets had been sold on the first day for the film. For the first day in three chains, there were roughly 1.70 lakh sales across all of India. A non-national chain like MovieMax has also made significant strides, selling approximately 5800 tickets on opening day and 13,000 tickets over the course of the weekend.

The target audience of MovieMax is a bit more massy than that of National Chains, and Adipurush's advancement in the chain is a sign of a strong start in tier 2 and 3 centres. Adipurush is anticipated to have a Rs 25 crore launch in the North given current circumstances, and if it draws large crowds on opening day, we can't rule out the prospect of a Rs 30 crore start as well.
